[edit] Project Creation Process

Summary:

Due to a number of problems with projects in the group, we have decided to start "vetting" projects before allowing them onto the wiki. We have had a large number of unrealistic group projects that have run into a dead end. Problems include: over ambitious design, lack of funding, lack of planning and lack of commitment. The project vetting aims to make sure that projects are achievable.

1. Feel free to discuss project concepts on the mailing list. We discourage IRC only discussion as most of your peers within Bobs Basement will miss the conversation and be unable to help you.

2. Before any projects are placed onto the wiki, they will require approval from the BB projects team. This is done by submitting a project proposal which is then reviewed by the BB projects team to ensure that it is achievable and is also broken down into tasks that can be divided up and tracked. Allowing us to also split off work to other members and meetings. We will be using a template form to be sent to the BB projects team. This is so that we can capture the relevant information needed to check that everything looks OK.

3. What are we looking for? Basically, we want a plan of the project, this includes tasks, deadlines and costs. We'd also like projects to be broken down into milestones where we have a working project and then add additional functionality at later stages within the project.

4. We are producing an example project proposal demonstrating what is required. Simple principles like KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) and Design, Make, Decorate are recommended when planning your project.

5. Once the project is submitted, the BB projects team will either approve the project and add a wiki page or work with the project proposal author to resolve any problems and get it into an acceptable state.

6. Please bear in mind that by submitting a project idea you are committing to the completion of that project. The chapter manager will assist the running of the project but the chapter manager is not their to do the project. Or take a significant role in the project, as they have projects of their own as well as other duties and time commitments within Bobs Basement.
