From Bob's Basement
My name is Remy (rem on #bobsbasement), most people call me Rem or Remz and I'm 23 years old. Most days I can be found at the systems dept at the Medway School of Engineering in Chatham which is part of The University of Greenwich otherwise during times when the uni labs are closed, I'll be in the garage at my place in Ashford.
I gear my efforts towards development at the hardware/software level and have worked with Xilinx FPGAs, Cypress cPLDs, PICs, and ARM Xscale development boards. I often work with electronics and have designed and made various boards. I develop with the GNU GCC toolchain and code almost solely in C apart from when I'm developing for an FPGA/cPLD where I code using VHDL. I use both Linux and Solaris as my development platforms.
I have been heavily focused over the last year in developing model-based feedback control algorithms for RISC based embedded targets. During this time I've become moderately familiar with MATLAB/Octave in simulating various (simple) dynamic systems. This is the field in which I intend to focus my efforts over the coming years as its just so much darn fun.
So what do I do when I'm not engineering? Well, I really like motorbikes and own a Royal Enfield which I had imported from India. I've also been sailing since as far back as I can remember and as soon as I've saved up enough will sign up for a skippers course and eventually get my own modest sailing yacht. I like to read...a lot, Sci-Fi being my favourite. I also enjoy traveling whenever the opportunity arises and would be happy to accompany anyone on a trip they had in mind.
Feel free to drop me a line if you ever want to run through an idea with a pair of ears and relatively working mind or need a quiet place to work on some stuff.
For now, I shall leave you in the immortal words of Kryten of which I have found comforting on many a debugging occasion...
Causality? Well, OK, you know, one event causes another, OK, but sometimes, you just gotta say, the laws of time and space? Who gives a smeg!
Look forward to seeing you all around.
Rem
